What is Optomap®?

optomap
Optomap® is a comprehensive retinal examination that can also detect signs of other diseases that affect not just your eyes, but your overall health.

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR)
Caused by changes in the blood vessels of the retina, DR is the leading cause of blindness in America and affects nearly half of all people with diabetes - American Diabetes Association

Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
Increased pressure in the vessels can result in damage to blood vessels in the eye - www.bloodpressure.com

Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD)
Caused by changes in the retina due to the body's aging process, ARMD is the leading cause of blindness for those aged 55+ in America - American Macular Degeneration Foundation

Retinal Detachment (RD)
Caused by severe nearsightedness or trauma, RD can also occur in patients with systematic diseases such as diabetes and will likely lead to permanent vision loss if not detected - www.allaboutvision.com

Why is an Optomap® Retinal Examination such an important tool?

With the Optomap® Retinal Examination, the majority of the retina is visible in one single image.
Conventional Retinal Imaging Technology only captures a small area of the retina at one time.

Your Optomap® Retinal Images will be stored electronically. This gives your doctor a permanent record of the condition of your retina. This is very important in assisting your doctor to detect and measure any changes to your retina next time you get your eyes examined.

Your doctor strongly recommends that you make the Optomap® exam part of your eye exam.
