Intense Pulsed Light Therapy for Dry Eye

At Pickerington Eyecare, we offer intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy to treat dry eye. Originally developed for dermatology, IPL is now used to treat dry eye as a minimally invasive option.

What is IPL Therapy?

IPL uses high-intensity pulses of non-laser light to treat dry eye.

This treatment targets the areas around the eyes to improve tear function.

Meibomian Gland Stimulation: IPL helps stimulate the glands that produce the oily layer of the tear film, reducing tear evaporation.

Anti-Inflammatory Benefits: IPL reduces inflammation linked to dry eye caused by eyelid irritation.

Improved Blood Circulation: The heat from IPL increases blood flow and helps reduce inflammation.

Benefits of IPL Therapy

  • Long-lasting relief from dry eye symptoms
  • Non-invasive procedure designed for comfort
  • Reduces reliance on eye drops and other temporary treatments
  • Supports gland function and the surrounding tissue

How Does It Work?

Our team uses a handheld device to deliver controlled bursts of light around the eyelids. This process stimulates the meibomian glands and improves tear film quality to reduce irritation, dryness, and discomfort.

What to Expect?

Treatment typically involves a series of 3 to 4 sessions, each lasting about 15 minutes and spaced a few weeks apart. Many patients notice improvement after the first few treatments.
